Opportunities for teaching

Sections of ALS 116 are taught by the coordinator and four volunteer/intern graduate teaching assistants from various departments at OSU. GTAs are trained in delivery of lesson plans that emphasize active learning, collaborative discussion, and reflection and participation from the students. Interns/volunteers receive weekly support from the coordinator in group meetings, and individual support in one-on-one meetings on an as-needed basis. Students from the CSSA program (College of Education) and other degree programs at OSU seem to greatly benefit from this opportunity to grow and develop their teaching practices. A few of the instructors who have taught ALS 116 have gone on to teach for the BEST Bridge Program and the September Scholars Bridge Program.
