The Academic Success Center (ASC) offers workshops and trainings for student audiences and is eager to collaborate in order to tailor workshop content to specific groups and needs. Workshops vary in length and topic, and topics include the science of learning, test prep, time management, success strategies, and more. Curious to read more about our topics? View our workshop menu below, and find our workshop request form, below. Not sure which to choose? Contact Sarah Norek to talk through options.
Workshops are most effective when
The ASC facilitates workshops on a number of academic success topics. Workshops can be chosen from our menu of existing topics or designed uniquely for your population and need. Regardless of topic, our workshops draw from the science of learning, are designed to be interactive and engaging, and often involved participants in discussion and activities. You can "Request a Workshop" via our webform.
When you submit your request, please take care to provide as much detail and information as you can in answer to our prompts; this will help us to design a workshop that meets your needs.
The ASC offers workshops during the hours of 8 AM and 7 PM, Monday through Friday. If you'd like to discuss alternative options, please be in touch with Sarah Norek: email@example.com. Please plan ahead and schedule workshops at least one week in advance of your desired date.
We appreciate having access to whiteboards/flipcharts, as well as technology for PPT slides; if you’d like assistance in arranging for a space, please don’t hesitate to be in touch with Sarah. You can also search for available rooms using OSU’s Webviewer.
We have designed a series of pre-scheduled workshops to be delivered via Zoom over the course of the term. Students can register for one or more workshops and each will have the same quality content and engaging facilitation you have come to expect from the ASC.
Check out descriptions of each workshop and the schedule on our workshop series webpage. You are welcome to send students the link to the page so they can view options and register. Please also feel free to build workshop attendance into assignments, extra credit, or an advising requirement or expectation. When registering for the workshop, students will be able to request an attendance confirmation email. This email could be sent directly to you or forwarded to you by the student after the workshop. Be sure to include instructions if you require an attendance confirmation email.
Workshop content draws from the science of learning and workshops are designed to be interactive, involving participants in discussion and/or activities. The below options usually last 30-45 minutes.

Procrastinating is easy, but so is managing your time, once you have a few strategies to work with. Learn strategies to better manage your time, and to manage procrastination out of the picture.
Preparing for tests can feel daunting, and let’s be real – often, we wait until the last minute. Take this workshop to learn how your brain works and what it takes for it to truly learn something. Then, use this knowledge towards effective test preparation.
To have an effective study session, you need to be able to concentrate. Great idea, right? If only there weren’t so many distractions! Get a better understanding of concentration and its nemesis, distraction, and then pack your bag and head for more efficient and effective study sessions.
A magic potion for success? We agree – that would be awesome. When you find it, call us. In the meantime, let’s work together to set you up to succeed, because you already have what it takes - experiences. Develop strategies based on your experiences and knowledge and take this first year by storm.

Instructors are key to academic success, yet countless office hours go unattended and this valuable resource is underutilized. So let's break down office hour myths, talk through strategies for successful office hour usage, and consider the idea that strategies you practice and use now in office hours can be applied later as you move into life after OSU and begin networking towards new opportunities.

Some of the workshops we provide are for a student staff or student employee audience. We are happy to support the training and professional development of students in these roles. Example topics include:
> Managing your time as a student and an employee
> Helping other students: Making an effective referral
> Facilitative vs. directive support for learning
> Learning about ASC & campus resources
In addition to our topic-based menu, we also provide a range of services, workshops, and consultation work to folks training student staff. If you are interested in a training for student staff, please email Marjorie.Coffey@oregonstate.edu.
We know it can be hard to keep track of the many resources available to students on campus. If you have upcoming department meetings or retreats and would like the ASC to come and give a brief presentation or overview of our services, please contact Marjorie Coffey. We can plan for the type of event and interaction that works for your team.
