The Academic Success Center (ASC) offers workshops and trainings for student audiences and is eager to collaborate in order to tailor workshop content to specific groups and needs. Workshops vary in length and topic, and topics include the science of learning, test prep, time management, success strategies, and more. Curious to read more about our topics? View our workshop menu below, and find our workshop request form, below. Not sure which to choose? Contact Sarah Norek to talk through options.

Workshops are most effective when

  • We plan with you in advance, so we can tailor the workshop to the particular student group's needs and interests
  • The instructor is present to introduce the workshop, its context in the class, and participate throughout
  • Students have the chance to ask questions and think critically about what they're hearing
  • The class has related follow-up actions so students can put what they've learned into practice

The ASC facilitates workshops on a number of academic success topics. Workshops can be chosen from our menu of existing topics or designed uniquely for your population and need. Regardless of topic, our workshops draw from the science of learning, are designed to be interactive and engaging, and often involved participants in discussion and activities. You can "Request a Workshop" via our webform.

When you submit your request, please take care to provide as much detail and information as you can in answer to our prompts; this will help us to design a workshop that meets your needs.

The ASC offers workshops during the hours of 8 AM and 7 PM, Monday through Friday. If you'd like to discuss alternative options, please be in touch with Sarah Norek: sarah.norek@oregonstate.edu. Please plan ahead and schedule workshops at least one week in advance of your desired date.

We appreciate having access to whiteboards/flipcharts, as well as technology for PPT slides; if you’d like assistance in arranging for a space, please don’t hesitate to be in touch with Sarah.

Workshop content draws from the science of learning and workshops are designed to be interactive, involving participants in discussion and/or activities. The below options usually last 30-45 minutes.

Already had a workshop on one of the above topics and my group wants a follow-up

Fantastic! We’d love to work with you to design something that builds on what you’ve already learned or that tackles a new topic. Let us know where you’re at, and where you want to be.

Other

Not seeing what you're looking for? Be in touch! We'd love to work with you to determine what will best suit your needs.

Some of the workshops we provide are for a student staff or student employee audience. We are happy to support the training and professional development of students in these roles. Example topics include:

> Managing your time as a student and an employee

> Helping other students: Making an effective referral

> Facilitative vs. directive support for learning

> Learning about ASC & campus resources

In addition to our topic-based menu, we also provide a range of services, workshops, and consultation work to folks training student staff. If you are interested in a training for student staff, please email Marjorie.Coffey@oregonstate.edu.

We know it can be hard to keep track of the many resources available to students on campus. If you have upcoming department meetings or retreats and would like the ASC to come and give a brief presentation or overview of our services, please contact Marjorie Coffey. We can plan for the type of event and interaction that works for your team.
